Best Door Lock & Latch lubricant?

The locks have a cover plate so ingress of dust/etc isn't much of an issue. If it were a newer lock then graphite seems ideal but as it ages you're better off with an oil or grease to retard corrosion. If you use grease then as it ages it's going to get gummy and need a light oil to soften it, or a solvent.

The main thing is, lube it. People often overemphasize what is "best" when what is best is to lube preventatively instead of waiting for wear and signs of a problem.

WD40 or white lithium spray (or paste applied with an small acid brush) is what i've used all my life. WD40 gets into the moving parts better, but has to be done regularly (couple times a year) as it doesn't last that long. i've used graphite on key locks, but WD40 seems to work too. these days most people don't use their key-locks so i don't bother with them much. people seem to have strong opinions on this subject, but i just use what's always worked for me and i don't care what other people have to say about it.

i once had a "locksmith" tell me that the reason i had trouble locking the rear door in a store i once worked in, was because i was doing it wrong. i told him that i had been locking doors all my life and that i felt i knew how to do it. moron... fix the damn lock!
But hiring locksmith means you wanted him to open the door from him as the problem is in the lock and it can be better repaired by the locksmith not by yourself, then why did you opened it by yourself. ? ? ?
