Best door speakers???

Hi, I searched on this, but I decided this was something that should be current. I want to replace my door speakers. I have a 93 sport. I believe the stock size is 5x7. I have some alpine component 5-1/4's that I could put in if they would fit, but if not I want to buy new ones that are real nice. I'm sick of distorting the hell out of the stock speakers and not being able to just listen to the music. Anyways, thanks.

Your components will fit nicely with an adaptor plate. This gives you the freedom to mount the tweeter wherever you like best.

whats an adapter plate? Just something to fill in the space around the speaker and still use the stock location? Whats it made out of? Thanks

I asked the same thing....

I was told by another board member to go to home depot or someplace similar and pick up some MDF (medium density fiberboard) 1/2" thick and cut that out to match

I'd say the best way is to trace the existing speaker on the board, cut it out, also use the new speaker and cut a hole in the same board to fit the new speaker in..drill out the screw holes and BAM, there you have the adapter plates....

It could be explained a bit better but I'm in a rush you get the gist though, right?

I have the 6 1/2" Alpine SPR-176A's mounted in my X. Also, I have a set of those speaker adapter plates, brand new and unopened, that are mentioned above If you want them (free). The model # is 82-5600 made by Metra. They adapt 6 1/2" speakers to a 5X7/6X8 opening. The reason I did not use them is that the Alpine's were too big for the plates even though they are 6 1/2". The basket is bigger on the Alpine than most other 6 1/2" speakers. Pics of my system:

No problem Josh. Just send me your mailing info. The actual diameter of my Alpine's were bigger than the adapters. Could not get the speaker to slip into them.
