Well, you have a few options. To start off though, I'll say that the best place mount it (where there is the least interference) is in the middle of the hood. I've heard of people mounting it to the roof rack cross bar. Another idea would be from the bumper, although I honesly don't know how that's done... I've seen one installed towards the back of the hood on the second rail, so that can work too. Good luck, let us know what you decide...

In the middle of the hood? Maybe if i had a magnetic antenna but i dont. i have a Firestik II and i wanted to mount it to the back door jam, or on the left side of the hood. I got the Cobra 29 NW ST. I'm thinking about custom mounting it in the ashtray area. Anyways tell what you all think.......Thanks;)

I meant the roof, not hood, doh  It would still work, you can just drill a hole in the middle of the rack and install in there. Although, I don't know if that would be very sturdy. I think you'll be ok with either of those mounting options. I've seen a lot of them installed in the ashtray area, where exactly did you want to put it? I have mine underneath the glove box, but kind of close to the ashtray. I didn't see anywhere to drill holes near the ashtray, so I put it there. Where were you thinking?

The ideal place for an antenna on the Explorer is the middle of the roof. There, you get the least amount of fuel pump noise/interference in the system.

I mounted my antenna to the front roof rack crossbar. I've got a Wilson Silver Load, so it's comparable in size and weight to your Firestik. I haven't had any problems thus far with the antenna location (except for a high pitched whistle from wind noise at highway speeds) and I get good reception with it.
