I have a stock 93 Explorer Sport & just rolled 100k on the odometer. I'm only off road for Deer hunting season, otherwise my Explorer stays on pavement, which in Michigan, that can be worse than offroad at times. I put a set of Michelins LTX M/S on & want to upgrade the suspension. From reading here, Bilstien shocks are the way to go. Truckperformance.com has 'em for $56.80 ea. I was also planning to add the Bilstien front coils($204) add-a-leaf($124) to the rear. Is this the way to go??? Is Bilstein the best/economical for these parts?? And do I get the "standard' or 1" Lift springs?? How is ride quality (if I can use this term for an Explorer)???? My thougts were to go with Standard coils in front & add-a-leaf to the rear????

Thanks, a newbie to the site!!!

I had the 1" lift coils and add-a-leafs with Bilsteins all the way around. Looked great but the add-a-leaf was a bit harsh for my taste. Probably not as bad on a 4- door but I'd go with extended shackles on a Sport. The Bilsteins are great; I'm still using the rears.

I have a set of front Bilsteins for sale...

I have no opinion on Billstein. I do know that upgrading to Skyjacker 2" raised coils and add-a-leaf helped me a bit. Shocks? not too crazy about Rancho (price) Billstein is OK as is ProComp. ProComp ES3000 is like $115.00 per set.

PS. coils and add-a-leaf was like $150.00
