I thought you guys in the 4th Gen subforum might enjoy a little story from my work today:

So, I sadly no longer have my ST, but in the job that I'm currently working we have an 06 V6 4x4 Explorer with about 110,000 miles.
We came across a Dodge 2500 (mid/late 90s probably) with a 1000gal water trailer stuck on a fairly steep dirt/gravel road. We're pretty sure he tried to engage 4Low while in Drive, mid-way up the incline, and ended up knackering his linkage. Regardless, no 4Low and no 4High, at first. One of my co-workers managed to fiddle with the linkage to at least get the guy 4High, but the Dodge still couldn't move on the incline.

So, our V6 Explorer in 4Low, at 7000+ft on a crappy gravel-dirt-crumbly asphalt road, with a tow strap and a chain towed a Dodge 2500 with a 1000gal water tank trailer about 800 yards up to flat spot on the road. Little bit of slippage at first, but it worked fine.

The Dodge guy and his buddies (one of whom had an F250 with a 500gal tank in the bed and a serious SoCal pre-runner look going on with his suspension) were all nice though, and no offence meant to anybody.

Sorry, no photos or video, I was super tempted, but that wouldn't have been nice of me. I figured some people on here might enjoy the story though.

Only goes to show that you'll never go wrong with a Ford.

Been in similar situations in the winter (nothing like the amount of weight you were pulling though), best one was when I pulled two vehicles at once up a snow packed incline in the 7000+ elevation that I live in. Long story short the first guy was in a passenger car at the bottom of the incline and the 2nd guy (Jeep with a decent off road setup) got himself stuck trying to pull the 1st guy out/up. Hooked onto the 2nd guy with a tow strap, locked the transfer case, and let the RSC system do its thing.

These things can tow, especially when geared with 4.56's;)

My buddy rolled his 3rd gen () when we were out messing/drifting around in the snow up in Lake Arrowhead (6,000 ft). We were out on this back twisty road and the truck oversteered just a tad and rolled up onto a hill and of course rolled. We flipped it back over and oil was in the wrong places in the engine, long story short it wouldn't start. At first we hooked my buddies F150 to it and at struggled for traction. And no way we were going to hook it up to my buddies XJ, because unibody lol. So of course we hook mine up and it towed it like it wasn't even there, literally. No traction issues, power, anything. I towed him through 20 miles of turns and up and down hills. Some which had a good 25-30% grade. On this one hill there were cars, trucks, even some jeeps stuck and my truck pulling its own weight (literally) walked up it no problem. There was even a CHP stuck in the snow. The look on everyone's face was priceless. And I must add that this was all in the middle of a blizzard.

Last year at school my buddy's F250 PCM got water in it after driving through a flooded street. He didn't want to call a tow truck so we tied the tow strap to the back of my hitch and to his truck and I towed him about 2 miles through town. First part was flat and a little downhill but as soon as we got about halfway it was all uphill and my 08 XLT handled it fine.

I knew it would make it alright but I just found it ironic that I was towing the car that should of been towing me.
