How will the new higher rated sub affect the sound using the factory 85w amp? Will it sound better than the factory sub?
8" 4-ohm subwoofer
metalized polypropylene concave cone with high-roll butyl rubber surround
non-resonant, heavy-gauge stamped steel basket
professional grade, nickel-plated, locking push terminals
power handling: 30-200 watts RMS
peak power handling: 400 watts
frequency response: 26-200 Hz
sensitivity: 85 dB
top-mount depth: 4-3/16"
sealed box volume: 0.35 cu. ft.
suitable for marine use

it will sound at least as good and probably alot better, the load on the factory amp seems fine, power rating is more than enough.

The top mount depth is 4 3/16". Do I need to modify the encloser or add a spacer to fit this sub?

Ok, I got the sub for $49 shipped.... 4" depth for the enclosure on a 99??

So, I installed the sub today...I cut the old speaker mount off where it bolted to the magnet, because of depth issues and clearance with the grill. I used a dremel tool and patched the hole with Gorilla tape. I also needed about 1/16" more clearance so I used some 1/4" hose as a spacer and it fit and sealed it pefectly. The hose worked great because it didnt block any of the mounting holes, so there was no drilling needed.....This sub sounds so much better than the factory one!!
