hey guys, as some of you know im looking to buy another explorer. a 5.0 one.
i was wondering who makes good bolt on mods for the 5.0 explorer.
i already know what i can do to the engine and what not but who makes headers and intakes for the 5.0 and other bolt on stuff like that?
thanks guys

try a search... lots of info on here..

The only headers you can get are Ford Motorsport ones, which in my opinion are great. K&N and KKM both make air intakes (if that's what you are refering to).

There are tons and tons of mods you can get for the 5.0. I'd just go check out expo5.0, lowdpypes, james t, xlt_66, x-box,... all those guy's rides. Theres some sweet modifed five ohs in that list.

yeh im kinda lazy though, besides i enjoy conversation...:D

well, as for strict bolt ons (if i had to go that route for all my mods) you'd replace the early intake stuff with mac or k and n fipk type kit, a pro-m mass air like 75 or 77 mm, as for the exhaust you could use the headers (if you want to pay for a tiny hp gain that is unless you continue to modify past the bolt on stage) and a borla bolt-on exhaust system or the like (if i were going bolt on i'd go with the borla, but i wouldn't i'd just throw in a flowmaster 40 or 50.)

most people have already said it.. there are lots of bolt ons for the 5.0.. now the 5.0 explorer? thats something different.. true bolt ons seem to stop at the supercharger/heads/headers.. there are no intakes or throttle bodies (intakes I mean manifolds, not MAC and all that..) pulleys being placed differently and being a different distance from the engine makes normal 5.0 underdrive pulleys not bolt up.. and stang chargers wont either.. because of this and a few other things I beleive.

yes there are parts out there to get an ok amount of power from the trucks.. but you'd better have a fat wallet to do it.

Just a minute ago I was checking prices.. cos I'm bored.

it seems superchargers on the mainstream market have jumped $1000 in cost.. from $3500 to $4500 for a 6psi powerdyne kit. I could buy another engine for that kind of money.. its simply ridiculous.

why would you want a new intake manifold?

stock explorer intake manifold is "kinda" a Cobra, but actually flows better. leave it alone unless you go BIG hp. the only headers you can get, and i mean ONLY, are FRPP's for a 96 X. if you buy a 97-up, you can use these but will have to have an EGR tube welded on. stock throttle body is a 65mm, and same rules apply as intake. a upgraded MAS, exhaust, intake/airbox cut, throttle cable mod will make pretty substantial gains (unless you have a DarkFox explorer;) ).

later on down the road, a cam swap would be a great mod (ask expo.) the stock X cam is very small and un-manly. doesnt make much power or torque. deffinatly would be worth the money.

get a chip, this will also help quite a bit. make your first 2 mods intake and exhaust. then go from there. the 5.0 has a very strong, reliable bottom end that will handle an @ssload of power in factory form without puking. there are many 88-95 stangs out there with NO2/chargers on high milage stockers and they still run fine. any more questions/comments, feel free to ask.

if you buy a 5 liter, then you get to join our exclusive "5 oh club." benefits include free beer, a monthly newsletter, and bi-annual meetings at local strip clubs...

james? i forgot where next months meeting was. should we go to that strip club where Slick's friend from high school works?

hrmm, forgot about the cam.. I didn't really consider a cam or a chip a bolt on tho.. but yea those will definatley help you out some.

why swap intakes? cos theres got to be something better.. heh, I almost refuse to beleive ford would put the best 5.0 intake they make on the trucks stock. especially with a miserly 170hp at the wheels.

I resemble that remark about the mods :P

throttle cable mod will only work if oyu have play in the cable in such a way that your butterfly in the TB isn't opening all the way.. mine does.. so unless you wanna go more than full throttle when you stomp it.. I dont thikn you should do that until you are sure if you have slack.

if you have a pre 97, or you have the um.. gt40 heads, you could probablly swap them for gt40-p heads and maybe see some gains? not exactly sure on that one, but I know the 40p is suppose to be better than the 40.

believe it. its a pretty common "budget" stang trick. get an intake off an explorer. ive seen it done many times. also, the GT-40p heads are getting real popular in the stang groups. seem to do pretty good with bigger valves/porting work. as far as a direct swap from GT-40 to GT-40p's, it would be a complete waste of time. there is basically no power difference when comparing in stock form, and either can be built up to same #'s. stang guys use the p's simply because they are more plentiful.

yeh the explorer intake is comperable to the gt-40
i already have plans for the engine in the way of trick flow twisted wedge heads and a custom ground cam.
i can get forged internals for $800 also.
make it safe to shott a hella lot of nitrous.
:D

yeh i was mainly wondering about the headers......
the stock exhuast manifolds are UGLY lookin.....
and was plannin on an intake also.
