bought 97 explorer yesterday and need this form already today...Go figure. door locks acting up, heat/AC are intermitent, front end work.....what did I get myself into. The $1400 great deal on the 97 E.B doesn't seem like such a great deal any more. wish me luck!
I'm kind of new to Explorers myself (have a '96 XLT), and this Forum has been real handy. You didn't mention the mileage on your '97, or what front end work, but anything over 125,000 miles would, I expect, need at least lower ball joints.
Door locks: is the "Door Ajar" light off and on? There's a fix for that on this forum, just do a search.
I think that you will get better help from the experts here is you post some specifics.
We paid $1,100 for our '96, and will probably have close to $2,000 in it when we get it right or close to right, but the engine and tranny are sound, the FWD works good, and with help from this forum the other smaller matters, mostly electronic, are getting fixed. $2,000 is not a bad deal for a medium sized FWD (or AWD) American truck from the later '90s if the engine and trans are good.
I would think that an Eddie Bauer, with the additional features, would be worth more than our more basic model when you get it right.
