Bought an ST with a check engine light on brand new from the lot

Yep. Test drove it, light came on. It felt a little under-powered to me, but it was Saturday and no mechanics were on, so this morning I went in. Turns out a hose clamp on one of the turbos was loose, and the hose was not seated properly. Once fixed, I saw an immediate improvement in MPG and torque.

Welcome to the Forum.
Those hose connections were more of an issue with the 2013/2014 Sport than the current ST, however, it can happen.
BTW, have you checked your tire pressures? Several Explorers did not have the pressures reduced by the dealers prior to sale.

Looking now, yes my TPs are slightly higher than they should be (37 and one 38). Thanks for the heads-up!

That's not too bad. Some had readings in the high 40's. New Vehicle High PSI Readings Upon Delivery
