Brake light on instrument panel goes on and off

Hey there fellow explorer drivers

My name is Sam I currently drive a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. My question is today when I was driving back home I noticed on my instrument panel the brake light comes on and then goes off and comes on and goes off. Does that mean my brakes are going out on me or does it mean I got a brake light out or what.

I know my brakes are squeaking and they need to be replaced but I am just wondering whats causing the brake light to come on and off every 2 seconds. Well if anyone know what this problem is can you help a fellow X driver.

Mine did that with low brake fluid.

Indeed, it's one of only two possibilities: Either the brake fluid is low, or the parking brake pedal is slightly depressed and jiggling the switch off and on. Those are the only two things that can cause that light to come on.

(We don't count gremlins in the dash as a problem.... we call that an infestation.)
