Hey guys,

I am about due for my safty inspection and my brakes lights wont light up. The one center light lights up but the 2 tail light ones wont light up. The tail lights will come on (they share the same bulb as the brake light (double fillamint bulb)). I think I have a wireing issue. Any ideas of where to satart or what to do to get her passed inspection. Any one know where to find a wiring diagram for a 97 4 door explorer.

Thanks.

Its your LOM (lamp out module).... the center light doesn't go near it. The same brake switch feed does both center and the two tails.

I looked up LOM and found a lot about headlights, is there only one LOM that controlls all the lights?

Also this looks like it might be a pretty costly fix, unless I can solder it. What do you think about splicing the wire that goes to my center brake light to my two tail brake lights?

Any suggestions on where to find one cheep (is it worth buying a used one).

thanks

Splicing probably isn't a good idea... first off you are playing around in an area where the replacement bulb (neon) is $300-500... not good. Second off, the center light is individually fused (for the same of the reason previously stated). "ALL lights" is not quite correct... important lights is better. LOM doesn't control any of these.... its just a sensor telling your warning system that you have a light out. However, as you have found out, the module can have problems resulting in "light out" conditions even though the bulbs are good (its because the feed passes thru the module). Your best bet is to splice around the module... look at the LG wire (in) and R/W out at the module (at least in 96).

PS Just because you have tail lights doesn't mean the brake filaments are good.... check them.
