I am replacing the front rotors and am looking for a good quality rotor. I know there are cheap China :thumbdwn: made ones but I would really like a top of the line rotor. I have looked at Bembo, Power Slots, EBC and a few others. Any help from anyone who had good luck with theirs. Thanks, Buddy

you cant go wrong with power slot rotors and hawk pads

powerslots & hawks

Hey, I just paid last month $390 for 4 powerslot rotors and this also included the hawk pads. If you want I can give you all the details, I tried all kinds of places but finally shopped them down from about $440 to $390. I had them installed and I have not broken them in yet.

I think so far on my 98 explorer (5.0) that the powerslots and hawks are the way to go.
I get tired of seeing posts on here where people just say "go with x.." but they don't have any experience with it. I DO have powerslots and hawk on all four corners and my explorer is the much neglected 5.0.

I'll be happy to share model numbers and prices with anyone who cares to know. I'm at work now and don't have the info.

In addition, because my brakes were so crummy before (74,000 miles) it is really hard to say how much better the powerslots are. But I can tell you this, if you go to the shop and get the generic parts midas or carx will sell you, then it will run over $400 for the rotors and the pads (parts only). Why not put on the good stuff? That's what I did and I'd do it again.

Love my powerslots.

so jack gives a hundred million word review and tower gives it a 3 word review haha

I do not have powerslots; but I've heard great things about them. If I was to upgrade my brakes; powerslot would be hearing from me

I am wordy that's for sure

I like to give the info, so many people here don't say much of anything, like I think they are good, or don't have them but I've heard they are good...........

I dropped well over $600 on my brakes and if I was to do it all over I would want somebody giving me the play by play on it, like how much it costs, where to get the parts, what catalog or part numbers are correct and why mabye EBC is better than Powerslot or vice versa.

I spent a long time researching it myself because I have the 5.0 explorer which for some reason no body has any applications for.....just try getting a flowmaster for it!

Anyways, I'm always glad to share what ever I know, which is very little but hopefully more folks will put up useful numbers, etc. If I know something works I like to tell everyone if it doesn't then I say save your money. So if brembos are better than powerslots I have no idea, and I'm not going to act like I do. I do know my powerslots are in my opinion better than EBC.

Short and to the point.

Don't get me wrong I could go on for a page or two but for the money hard to do better then the powerslots.

Now if you are going to track you explorer I would go to stoptech but you most likely do not want to spend $2500 + new tires and rims.

I run carbon pads but if no dust is what you would like can't do better than ECB green.

1998 Explorer 5.0 AWD

Here's the parts:

AJ-USA
http://ajusa.com

$387.59

PSR 8552PSL - power slot rotors
PSR 8552 PSR
PSR 8554 PSL
PSR 8554 PSR

Hawk pads - Performance Street Compound
HB283F.650
HB287F.571

If you shop them at buybrakes or others, or tire rack they will quote you around $450, I just shopped the heck out of them until I could get a good price, and the above price included shipping.

i doubt this guy is coming back....but thanks for the info. It sure is handy for those of us who plan on buying brakes.

amazing

I had to do it because I spent HOURS going thru this site looking for just scraps of information. Nobody lists part numbers and prices here. Why is that?

Anyway , I did my part!
keep on keeping on,

Jack

StopTech acquired the Power Slot brand in early 2013 and the product name changed to StopTech SportStop. Product did not change. Later - not sure how - they became part of Centric Parts, so Centric sells StopTech rotors.

I've been running the StopTech slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads as someone stated earlier in this ancient post. Seems to be a a pretty good working combination.

I got a set of rotors and pads from rockauto - centric brand. Semi coated rotors and ceramic pads. Between those and flushing out the old, black brake fluid from the system the brake work far better. The pedal is much firmer and they stop just great without noise.

IIRC the slotted rotors work better if you are doing a lot of frequent hard braking where the rotors would heat up but plain rotors are fine for everyday use. We have had zero problems with the plain rotors and I would definitely buy them again.
