I have gone through the Post about the Brown Wire Mod. On Page For StadX posted a diagram on how to do the wiring....I was wondering if any one who has done this mod for 2wd can either draw up a quick diagram or had the original that StadX posted. Thanks a lot guys. Much Appreciated

The "brown wire mod" turns off the control-trac (auto 4x4) portion of the 4X4 system. 2WD does not have that.

What am I missing?

Do you mean that you have a 4wd that might be stuck in 4wd and that you want it back to 2 w.? I had that problem and had to cut brown wire to disengage 4 awd.

I think he means he wants to do the mod so he can get 2wd? Wait he has a mountaineer. Aren't all Mountaineers AWD and not 4WD? If that's the case this mod won't work.

No I have a Mountaineer with Auto, 4hi and 4low.....I am going to do the 2wd mod on it. There was a Diagram on how to wire in the relay, and swith into the Brown wire on that Thread, but it won't load anymore on that page. I would like the Diagram if anyone has it or could draw me one up quick

This may not help you one bit. but on my 97 xlt 4awd the brown wire comes up thru the floorboard under carpet next to driver seat. You can see the wires comeing up thru floor from underneath. Why can't you just get a universal 20 to 30 amp fused relay with switch. So that when you flip the switch the relay pulls in and the switch does not take the load. I'm thinking that you coulld splice the relay between the brown wire and run the switch and relay where ever you wont to mount it. Just a thought. But it would be better if someone who has done this chime in.

Don't need a relay. I used a 30amp switch which is overkill even and haven't had any problems. Many others have used just a switch without problems also.

Wait till you hear this. I just stop car, get out and put the wire nut on or off depending on conditions. :D And one day I will just put a switch there. But some people like to complicate things so much. HA HA

One of my High School teachers told me somthing one day..."Spartans simplicity is condusive to study" Somtimes I apply that to a lot of things that I do. Hence the wire nut.

It's a wonder I can even remember HS

ROTFLMBO

Should have known rookie would use a wire nut.....remember the wiring pic in the top of his B II. :D  :p

I vaguely remember seeing it... I think it was a sketch of how to wire-up the relay and a switch for it.... complete overkill and entirely unnecessary IMHO.

I've installed a 30A-rated switch with a 15A fuse in-line, and it doesn't blow the fuse with the 4wd engaged, so it can't pull more than 15A even when the transfer case is engaged full-time.

Anyway...to help answer the above question. The brown wire in rookie's post is the wire you want. Just get a toggle switch (lighted?) and the same size of wire. Cut (like his) and splice the switch into the circuit and mount where you want. :)

Rookie, that mod is super custom. I think you should enter it in some show and shine car show.....list that under specialty custom items.

I am glad you saw the humor in the pics. :p

The wire he is showing is the correct one for a switch though. It is a useful pic.
