bull gaurd question

i recently have saved my money to purchase a bull gaurd for my truck (not a brush guard) my question is ive take out my fog lights and the piece that hold them in my 96 x i would like to install a bull gaurd and was where do i mount it and would it look bad with that bottom air dam taken out if so could i mount it ne higherso that it would go over my front grille instead of just my bumper

I have been wanting to do the same thing but i believe the bar can only be mounted in one position w/the mounting kit.maybe the kit can be modified to raise it up.
If so i will do the same!
