in preparing to lower my ex, i have some questions about bump stops.

i took measurements on the front and i have 2 1/4" between the bump stop mount and the a-arm(?). the stock bump stop is 1 3/4" and the gap to the a-arm(?) is 1/2".

DOES SUSPENSION TRAVEL(BETWEEN THE BUMP STOPS) NOT CHANGE IN PROPORTION TO THE DROP?

IF IT DOES CHANGE IN PROPORTION, THE DROP IS LIMITED TO HOW MUCH OF THE BUMPSTOPS ARE CUT OFF, RIGHT?

IF I LOWER 1 1/2" OR 2", WHAT WOULD THE EFFECT OF REMOVING THE STOPS AND/OR CUTTING OUT THE BRACKET BE?

ANYONE TRIED CUTTING AND REWELDING THE BRACKET TO rePOSITION THE BUMP STOPS higher?

Any account of personal experience of how much you lowered and what you did to the bump stops would be appreciated.:D

I think if someone knew the answer to your question they would have answered it. I was thinking about lowering mine but cant really afford to do anything at this point.

If you noticed this site has more raised up explorers than lowered down ones. There is another explorer site that has a forum on lowered street explorers.

each x is slightly different, but with mine i did a 2 inch drop and left the bumpstops as they are and it has worked great. with your measurements you will probably have to cut your bumpstops. this can be done with a sawzall or whatever you want. many people have had success just cutting them in half or removing like a third of them. your drop IS limited by them. but unless you are going like 3" or more you should be able to get the whole drop, see if you need them trimmed after checking the ride quality, and then do what you need to do. sorry that you didn't get any faster responses, i haven't been on the board as much as usual please stick around there are plenty of people here who know about lowered x's and most questions get answered almost immediately. also about the brackets- that shouldn't be necessary unless you want to go with a larger drop than you are trying for.

thank you for the info expo5.0

to everyone else, sorry about the sarcastic thanks reply. my computer crashed and hasn't worked right since. when i was online internet explorer would get an error and shut down every few minutes and i misdirected my frustrations. it's fixed now

i knew that the bump stops would limit my drop, but with the measurements i took, i couldn't understand how people were claiming to have dropped 1 1/2 to 2" without cutting the bump stops

i should have also mentioned that my ex is a '98 2 door 2wd with the standard v6.
