Oh!! Also the day before there was a raddling noise like something was hitting the fan it sounded like itbwas knocked loose and was replaced by a subtle grinding noise

Hissing, rattling, grinding, burning smell? Are you dead certain it is not overheating, or are you just looking at the temp gauge? Sounds to me like either the water pump,or the belt tensioner, or idler pulley, or combination is bad. The fan itself can be turned with some resistance because it is not connected directly to the belt. Take the belt off and check for play in the water pump shaft, noise in the belt tensioner and idler pulley. While you got the belt off, check all the other bdlt dfiven accessories.

Sounds like the idler pulley bearing locked up. If it did it can't turn which means the belt is dragging over the idler pulley.

It could als be a locked up A/C compressor. We had a '97 Taurus that had the A/C compressor lock up on it. It didn't take but a mile for the belt to snap whan it did this.

You Nailed it! Except found out the hard way.. I got to watch it seize up and slowly melt away the belt.. By the time i got to shut the engine off there was only 3 bearings left in the pully..

Thank you both for your help Exploder is back on the road!
