I am considering buying a valve body off ebay instead of rebuilding mine. Not sure if that is smart or not, but I am a little intimidated with the rebuild and I thought it might be simpler.. see this as an example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=200170404624&rd=1.

So is this smart to buy one of these? and if so, can someone tell me exactly what gaskets to buy? I can't understand what part number would be needed as far as gaskets for the valve body.
I have a 2000 explorer xlt awd..

This forum is great and I am confident I can save the cost of the rebuild that the "transmission man" said I needed.

thanks for any help. btw, I have a real bad 2-3 slip, sporadic flashing O/D light... and when on it has code P0733..

Be careful!

The reman one he sells for 200, the 40 dll one is a used and tested one, I sent several emails to this guy asking for more info on warranty, shipping and delivery time, he never replied, his only answer was that he had one for my truck at $214 shipped

So how about the gasket question?

I have been known to buy some parts from Ebay...;)
but if I do, I need to know what gaskets to buy..
Can anyone tell me what gaskets I would need if I wanted to do a valve body swap?

thanks for any help. I did order the atsg manual, but I may want to buy before I get that...

I bought one of these last year. It is a used valve body pulled from a blown trans. Mine had the sonnax valve and a home made ford sep plate. I was doughtfull it would work and I never tried it. Oh and it was soaked with parts washer fluid. Buy a rebuilt one. with these you never know what you are getting.

Bumping my own question.. Can someone confirm this please?

I am going to buy a refurbished/reconditioned valve body to swap on my 2000 explorer xlt. I bought the ATSG manual for it, and I just need to know what parts I need to buy, other than the valve body, to do the swap? Can someone tell me? Is it part # 7D100 and part # 7A008? the gasket and separator plate?
If this is right, is there anything else.
I already bought an EPC solenoid and will put that in at the same time.

Thanks for any help..
Can I just buy these parts at my local Ford place, or should I order them from somewhere?

thanks again, I am very intimidated about this and have read the diaries many times.. I hope to just do the swap and no rebuilding on my end...

I have checked these ebay people out and found by talking to recent customers that they are reputable and everyone has been satisfied, that I saw. I still want to know what gaskets I'd need, if I go that direction... I know many of the experts here say don't do it... I am just a little tight right now though, so I may risk it.... I may not also.. just can't decide right now.. thanks for any gasket help... You guys know a lot about this stuff.

Thanks

I'd bite the bullet and look at Central Valve Bodies. They have people who can asnwer your questions specific to your application and their product.

I am VERY leery of E-Bay Valve bodies, unless you are buying one to rebuild it - this is especially true on the problem children of VB's - the ones for the 5R55E!! I have bought a number of VB's on E-Bay - but always with an eye to rebuilding them. Even I have gotten junk I threw out just scavenging parts in the process.

Your E-Bay seller may disappear, a reputable business won't.

Went to their website, but no prices.. any idea on price?
EDIT::
To answer my own questions, it turns out central Bodies sells rebuilts on ebay...
275.00 or so for a rebuilt...but 50.00 from another place, tested and works, not a rebuilt..
I know central bodies would be the best, but I may have to try less first.

Your call. I'm not arguing. NOW, however you are faced with some new challenges - what year make and model did the Ebay one come from? What sep plate is on it? What gaskets would be appropriate and will it come with them? How many miles on the EPC?

Glacier991, I have read enough to know you are one of the experts here. You ask questions though that I can't answer. ( and I know you know that)..
Maybe I will just buy one from who you suggest. I was hoping for help with what I was trying to do, but I know how it is trying to help someone who isn't doing what you would recommend... I am still undecided..thanks though.
The Transmission mechanic said it needed to be rebuilt at 2300.00 dollars. I have to try something first before I do that, but in the end , it may cost me that plus 300 or so for a VB.

I've bought several used tranny parts from this ebay seller (tranzparts1). as a matter of fact, my '92 EX is running an overdrive unit and forward drum assembly from them.

I occasionally buy from them now, but get most of my spare parts from the exchange trannys at my nephew's shop. people around here opt for a used tranny over a rebuild and I get the exchanges,,,,,,works for me.

Rebuilt VB Installed - FIXED my 2-3 slip and OD light flashing!

To update this thread, I decided to buy a rebuilt VB off of EBAY. It worked out really well.
I bought it from Donny Lester, who sells them on ebay, as well as at Central Valve Bodies.

It was a good deal, and it fixed my 2-3 flair, code P0733. O/D light flashing now and then, not all the time.

It wasn't too hard to do the swap. I did buy the ATSG manual though and that helped a bit with torque requirements, and such.
Total cost with fluid, about 300.00
Total cost trans shop wanted about 2000.00

I am very happy.:D

Thanks to all of you who answered my dumb questions.

I would recommend this to those who don't want to get into the actual rebuilding themselves. I think it was my gasket, as it was brittle and broken near the EPC. Not really sure though. Donny used a new EPC in the VB I installed.

By the way, I have new EPC if anyone needs one.. I'll give it to you for $50.00.

It is better to use a scanner to erase the codes since disconnecting the battery will cause the PCM to go through a new relearning process. Autozone could clear the codes for you. If not, then disconnect the battery, and see if the code comes back.
