Just tore into my 1354 automatic transfercase of the weekend to diagnoise the root cause of my 4x4 popin out at higher RPM's. Two weeks ago I had to disconnect the shift motor since it went bad after a week. Not sure why??? anyone. I disconnected it and turned it to 4low and went offroading at bundy hill offroad park here in michigan. At first everything was ok, but as time when on the 4x4 would disengage at higher rpm. Not sure if this is a result of not having the motor connected. Seems odd since you have to put the vehicle in neutral to shift into 4x4 high or low.
The t-case is all apart on my desk and I am not sure why this is happinging. All internals looks fine. The chain may be a little loose, so I am going to replace it.
Other thought may lead back to the front differencial. It is locked with a aussie locker and maybe that is disengageing at higher rpm?? I dought it since the is how the locker functions. The more rpm the tighter the locker engages. Any auto mechanics out there that seen this problem?
