One way I know of to deactivate the Explorer’s running lights is to pull the fuse, which will also kill your fog lights, located under the hood in the fuse box. It's a blue fuse, rated at 15 AMPS. You should look in your manual to find out the specific location for the fuse. But when you do you will notice that during the day, your running lights will be off, and at night, your normal lights will work no problem, expect you won't be able to turn your factory fog lights on. The second way to solve your "running light" problem is to lightly depress your parking brake, effectively shutting off your running lights. Yes this way is easier then the first, however I don't recommend it, I don't want you wearing out your parking brake, and when you want to use it someday; you go rolling down a hill bashing up another Xplorer LOL!

Good luck to you, if you have anymore questions please fell free to e-mail me: pskingle@home.com

Hi! I'm not from Canada, but we have the same daylight-thing here in Norway. A couple of weeks ago mine suddenly stopped working, and I found out(after talking to the guys at Ford) that the daytime-runninglights had a resistance-thing located behind your bumper/mainlight on the lefthand side of the truck. This part was actually what had broken on my truck(they seem to do that, said the guy at Ford), resulting in the daytime-lights not turning themselves on.

What you could do is disconnect the plug going into this resistance. My guess is that this would have the same effect as when mine got broken. The daytime-runninglights will not turn them selves on, and your foglights will still be working.

I'm sorry I don't have any picture of it, but you'll find it if you lay down underneath your truck and look up between your wheelwell and the bumper. It is a bent metalplate with a wire going into a connection-plug-thing(sorry abt. language, but I dont know the english words for all this parts). It also has a resistor-part made of some kind of yellow metal. It's fastened to the backside of your wheelwell with two metalscrews. It's a bit tricky to take off the cord before you unmount the whole thing, since it has some kind of "klick-lock", but you should be able to do it... Or you can just unscrew the whole thing, it shouldn't take you more than fifteen minutes..

Yup Neds right, on my 92 its under the hood just in front of the windshield washer box, I unplugged mine with out any problem. sounds like yours may be in a different spot but proably the same thing.
Mine is a little black box about 3 or 4 inches square with cooling fins on it and a large plug pull it, no daytime lites, no ill effects.
GOOD LUCK
