hey gang-
I was wondering... those of you who've added a high-flo cat, did it come as an application-specific part (i.e., specifically designed to drop right in for your vehicle and model year) or did you just get a generic cat and have someone install it? I'm asking because I bought a generic Walker cat for my truck a while back, and while it was up on the hoist today (for something else) I was looking at that flange at the head of the factory 2-cat setup (where it meets the y-pipe). I noticed, to my dismay, that there's no way I can see to just drop in an aftermarket cat using the factory flange. it's all flared out at the flange and the first cat is right up next to it, so there's no usable length of pipe there to weld onto. I asked around at the parts stores and muffler shop today, but no one carried that part and the only option I was presented with was for the muffler shop to make a template and fabricate a flange themselves. I didn't ask about what kind of bill that would be, and it doesn't really matter because that particular place won't use parts that I bring them (they like to take their fat little cut of the parts cost). anyway, can anyone shed some light here??? the cat I got was a special order so I don't think they'll take it back now that I've opened the box (besides, I want it on there! :)).

please save my a$$ again as you have so many times in the past :)

Aaron

anyone??

Maybe u could use an old Y pipe from some one's old stock exhaust manifold and weld two pipes on there and take them into the cat. The old y pipe would come with the same mounting plate so that would help. I hope you can understand what i'm talking about...if not then tell me and i'll see if i can get some pics.

I have a Catco hi-flow converter and all that I did was buy the universal one and then made a plate and welded it to converter this allowed me to bolt it to the back of the y pipe.If you are not going to do the whole exaust I'd recommend the direct bolt on. Although it's more expensive it's way easier. Robbie J

thanks guys
as luck would have it, for some reason I saved my old Y and manifolds from when I put my headers on so I actually have either something I can rig using the old Y-pipe or at least a template for making a custom flange. I'd hate to actually use the old Y though, it's been sitting semi-outside and is pretty rough looking. it was bad to begin with, but now... Damn. anyway, problem sort-of solved :).

thanks again

Aaron

I have an application specific one that I got from Summit racing manufactured by Cat-co. It has the flange on it. The flange cone wraps right around the inlet to the cat. case with no pipe from the cat to the flange

You may want to try them if your looking for an application specific cat.
