Year, Model & Trim Level
98 4Litre SOHC
It all started with a couple of fault codes 171 & 174 which I read with one of those code reader thingy's and was ging to get that seen to when the mechanic was going to give my 98 4 litre sohc with 94K miles on it a service.
In the meantime I had to take it on a trip yesterday and I have a couple of problems
1. I get a sort of whizzing noise that only seems to happen when I take my foot off the gas pedal and then it starts. As soon as I put the gas pedal down again it stops. take foot of gas it starts again, then eventually it stops. Does anyone have any suggestions
2. Also after clearing codes with the Innova code reader to see if that would help, the engine sounds really rough with a metallic knocking at the front of the engine
3. There also seems to be a smell of antifreeze both inside and outside the car
Any one any suggestions ??

Have you had the 00m12. o rings and tensioner done? Any other symptoms like poor starting when cold rough idle etc.
If I had to call it I would get your mechanic to check out the lower intake o rings seals.

Also check 01M01. That's another program that is good to 100K miles.

Hi I will ask the local dealer but they are crap !
But will my exploder still be covered by any ford warranty its just done 94K miles with a full ford service history, well the last one was at 83K miles ?

Thanks Howard and Tom
Yes I have had the rough idle problems as well, after looking at it today I think I have blown a head gasket or something, sludgey stuff inside the oilcap and I only just did a oil and filter change with mobil 1 as well.....
