Hi all,

Now that I have my larger tires, my speedo, tranny and trip computer are all wrong. No problem really with a Power Programmer III except that I can't afford one.

My question is...does the dealer's computer have the ability to reprogram my X's computer (like the Power Programmer III would)with the new tire information so everything will be set right?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you, -AC

Yes, but you may have to search around before you find one that is willing. Something about modifying the comptuer and EPA rules. Check with Gerald, he already had his dealer reprogram his for around $80.

Well I'm relieved to hear the dealer can do this (but $80? sheesh!) and I wish someone in this side of the country had a Power Programmer III I could use for a couple mins...but I'll get the dealer to do it for now.

By the way...how do I locate Gerald?

Thanks again, AC

He's the moderator on several boards. Look for Gjarret.

Oh of course, thanks. Gerald...are you reading this? Any recommendations or advice on getting the dealer to program my X for my larger tires and other mods I'd like?

Nope, not really... I've learned some dealerships have a tech that can reprogram the computer and the other dealerships tell you "it can't be done". If you hear that line; run - don't walk - to a dealership that has competent techs.

Find a dealership with a tech that can do it, but it cost me $106, and I learned that our computers can be reprogrammed only six times and no more.

I think Superlift has a gadget for around $200 that does it so you can do it yourself and not worry about reprogramming. Check 4WPW for info. With that gadget you can keep two programs and so run two different sizes of tires and keep your speedo reading correct.

SUPERLIFT ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY TRUSPEED SPEED SIGNAL CALIBRATOR
WEST MONROE, LA - A speed sensor calibrator has finally arrived that addresses the needs of any computer-controlled vehicle running larger (or smaller) diameter tires: The Superlift TruSpeed speed sensor calibrator. The TruSpeed works with any electronic speedometer and hooks up in line with the speed sensor located on the transmission or transfer case of the vehicle. The TruSpeed alters the speed signal at its source, so speedometer reading, ABS function, and transmission shift points are all corrected to work with any non-stock tire diameter. A simple four-wire hookup is all it takes to install the TruSpeed, and comprehensive installation instructions make calibration an easy one-man operation. It not only corrects the speedometer reading to within 1 percent, it can be recalibrated an infinite number of times if future gear ratio and / or tire changes are made to the vehicle. In addition, the TruSpeed can be programmed for two different height settings for those who make seasonal tire changes or those who frequently run two different-height sets of tires on the vehicle (i.e. "street" and "show" tires). The TruSpeed will soon be available for all domestic and import cars, trucks, and vans equipped with an electronic speedometer. For more information, contact your nearest Superlift dealer or call the company's sales / tech line at 800/551-495
