Can I get by with this?

Can I get by with my factory headunit, an MTX 12" dual speaker with 400 watts peak, and two MTX 2channel bridgeable amps totaling 500 watts peak? Would that be good to turn some heads?

Don't really look at the Peak power ratings on the amp or the speakers. You really want to look at the "RMS" or "Continous" wattages and try to match the amp and speakers with a similar wattage. At minimum, just try and keep the speaker RMS more than the amp RMS power. Hard to tell if it will turn some heads, maybe a few, but it also depends on what kind of subs you buy and what kind of box you choose to get, whether it's sealed, ported or bandpass. But yeah, you can get by with the factory head unit no problem. As long as the amp has high-level signal inputs, or you buy a small high-level to RCA-level signal converter, that's really all you'll need.
