Ok, I got a deal on a new Jensen 10" sub today. It doesnt have a box. First off, can I make a box? How hard is it? Second, I just bought a new cd player it has 2 preamp outputs. Can I install this sub without buying an amp? I dont want to buy an amp. Thanks.

jensen is a very sorry brand.. if you paid more than say $50 for that.. yer WAY over paying.. sorry to be so blunt about that, but thats my 2 cents on that.. heh

you can't run a sub w/o an amp, although jensen's rms is probablly very very low. as far as installing one, all you need is power wire on 1 side of the car, RCAs on the other and a ground... I used a space behind my rear seat where the tire changing equpt. is for my ground.

I believe that DarkFox is right, you'll need an amplifier to run a sub. The head unit probably isn't powerful enough to handle the load of a sub. The pre amp outputs on your head unit are what you would use to send the signal to an amplifier. Sending speaker level input to a subwoofer probably isn't a good idea anyway. A crossover of some sort would be needed to block the higher frequencies. Many amps have crossovers built into them already so it's easy to run subs and speakers on the same amp. In my case, I'm running two 6x9s and a 10" sub on one four channel amp with built in crossovers. Reconsider purchasing an amp. The sound quality and clarity that results from an amped signal out performs anything powered by just the head unit IMO.

running a sub off of the deck is impossible, it will not do anything. The pre amp powere on the deck is not RMS and there just wont be enough power.

anyone want to buy a sub from me?

sorry

yup i agree with everyone else too.....
a deck wont be able to handle a sub by its self, plus the main point of the sub is to get to kick into your system.
as for the box. easy to make if you good with some tools. but definetly need a box.......
