Hey friends -- I see lots of discussion about engine interchangeability between Ford 4.0 vehicles, but no real consensus on this. My 01 Sport Trac needs help, and I think a replacement engine may be my best bet at this point. There is an 03 Explorer with the K-code flex fuel engine in the local yard. Is there any reason that engine wouldn't swap into my ST? I need to find out mileage, confirm it's a 4wd, etc... before I pull the trigger, so I have a couple of days. I just want to confirm that it CAN be used if the above criteria are met.
My understanding is that I'll need to swap out valve covers, and possibly the fuel lines. Can the injectors stay, and will they play nice with my computer and harness? Anything else I need to check for? I would like to try to pull the valce covers anyway and see whether the tensioners are intact before I but this motor. Looks like the coil pack, among other things, will need to be moved, no?
