So I am having trouble with the 4 wd/4wdlow lights blinking 6 times every few minuets on my 95 Explorer XLT. From what I've read a defective Hall speed sensor on the transfer case is the likely cause. Can someone confirm the exact location of these sensors for me? I believe 1 is located just about the rear drive shaft output on the transfer case?

Yeah thats right -- one is right near the rear output and the ohter is right beside the front output. They are located near the output because they read tone singals from a ring mounted on the main shaft (which is the same as the rear output shaft) and the shaft for the front output.

The 4405 rebuild diary shows them clearly.

Looks like I was looking at the wrong sensor. I was looking at the speed sensor not the hall sensor. The hall sensor it appears has 3 wires and no connector so I guess I gotta splice the old wires to the new sensor? This raises a question. is there a way to tell which sensor is bad?

wher exactly is the sppe sensor located at on a 2001 sport trak? have looked all over the tranny and can't locate it!!!!

I do not know about a 2001 but on my 95 the sped sensor is mounted near the rear drive shaft out on the transfer case and is used to determine actual vehicle speed (for the speedometer) it has a gear on it.
