I was just wondering if there was a known mount that you could get to place your spare on a swingin gate/bracket on the rear of an Explorer. Its something I'd like to have and I think it would look neat.

Anyone ever see it bvefore or have one?

I'm looking for one too. If anyone knows where to find them please tell us.

Yes you can! saw it in a catalog just last night. really! Problem is I have more than 1 catalog. Pretty sure it was either Stylin Concepts or JC Whitney for Fords. Mounts on your bumber/frame and swings out of the way to open your hatch. Thats all I remember about it.

wow, now ain't that a tease. think you can find the catalog and tell us for sure??? :)

That would be exactly what I am looking for.

just go pull one off of a BII and mount it on your X, I wouldnt reccomend it if you are gonna be carring more than a 30 inch tire on there.

IF thats the case there are some companies that make them but they cost anywhere between 350-500 bux

Thats all I know

I will be looking for one that will hold 35", so I needs to be pretty strong.

there are a couple of people on here that have them.
Did you try doing a search for "Spare tire carrier" or something along those lines.

Is that much weight going to need a body support modification of some sort? I have seen quite a few of those rear holders that end up sagging and twisting the rear quarter every time you use them. And those were with stock wheels/tires.

Just wondering....

my point exactally, Thats why I wouldnt reccomend carring anything over a 30 inch tire, on a stock one that is.
but the aftermarket ones bolt to the bumper which is boled to the frame or straight to the frame so no worries

I looked at the Kennesaw Mountain Accessories website and looked at their bumper/tire rack. Does anyone out there have one and are they impressed with it? The latch that locks it doesn't seem to be very good. I don't want it to open when I am driving or something.

Sorry about that IBROWNE. will look tonight at my catalogs and get you better info along with websight/phone number. Can't post till Monday as I don't have a computer at home. Just thought it was weird as I just read about it then saw your post the next day!

I've seen one in Explorer Express but it looked like it didn't belong there if ya know what I mean. I am in the works of custom fabbing my own rear tire bumper carrier as well as doing a feasibility study in a productions management class. If all goes well I may be going into production, me on the selling end and my buddy doing the fabbing on the mfg end. It all depends on how many interested people we have and since I want one for my X and he already has one built for his cherokee (front and rear) we will start with my design and see how it goes.

Just so you know, the Bronco II one will NOT work with our truck. The rear hatch area is totally different. Here's one that I like because it can be mounted right to the factory bumper. It's from www.tomken.com It's $209 I think.

Hey Ibrowne, found it in EXPLORER EXPRESS. $259 plus tax. Bolts to your frame with no drilling and swings out of the way for access to the back. Looked good to me. I have ordered from their web sight before with no problems. They have a 100% satisfaction return policy and have never read bad things about the company. check it out.
