Doing brakes on a 94 Ranger 4.0 automatic with ABS.

Doing front rotors and pads, and rear shoes. I call Napa and here is what they say:

9 inch or 10 inch brakes in the rear?
What is the front axle ratio - we're showing 2 different part numbers for rotors

Can I get this info from the VIN of the truck? I need to get these parts before they close today - and the truck isnt near and the its owned by a girl who answered when I askde if the truck had ABS "I don't know, I think theres a light on my dash for it thuogh"

Open your driver's door and read the "AXLE" code on the sticker. Check it against this chart, and it will tell you your gear ratio:
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Axles.html

If you find out you have a limited slip in the rear, you have the 10" drums. If it is an open diff, you most likely have the 9".

Then lift the hood, and follow the brake lines from the master cylinder. If they go into a fancy little box with a a good size electrical plug, you have ABS. If the lines just go straight to a proportioning valve, you don't have ABS.

Axle ratio shouldn't have anything to do with it. Usually when they have two parts numbers for Ranger front end, it's about whether it has the D28 or D35 front axle. 4.0 engines were paired with the D35. 3.0 and 4 cyl had the D28.

Alright so this sticker is located in the driver door jam, on the door itself or on the chassis?

I know the truck has ABS, the ABS light comes on when you start the truck and then goes off very quickly.

edit: wouldn't D35 stand for 3.55?

The sticker that shopws the ratios will be on the drivers door, near the latching mechanism, or the jamb....

D35 stands for DANA 35..it is the manufactuer of the front end.

D28 is a smaller, weaker version......
