My Gf's 90 merc tracer is down, and leaving her stuck with an hour and a half of the bus rather than her 30 min commute to seattle. To the point. For a WHILE SHE HAS HAD DIFFICULTY GETTING THE AUTOMATIC INTO GEAR, BUT A THUMP ON THE SHIFTER WOULD USAULLY DO IT. ......oops sorry bout the caps.... Today she was pulling out of our steep driveway, and it dropped into neutral and wouldn't shift out. I checkee her fluid. full, but more orange brown in color and smells slightly burnt. I dragged it up into the garage with some of the X's recovery gear, so i can at least give it a little better exam w/out getting wet. Whgere should I start? What might i be looking at as the problem. By the way, the flywheel has been grating for about 4 months while waitng for her to get it in. Any relation? Any help would be wonderful. Thanks Bryce

Start simple: shift lever or linkage.

Thank you

Thanks again for your help. Her car is running nicely thanks to a nice clean batch of atf and a couple new bolts to hold that linkage cable in place. This is twice now you guys have made my life easier. I should go with the elite package just to give a little back to the site. HMMM when is payday
Thanks
Bryce
