Well I can definitely say that my next vehicle will come from Carmax and I'll be getting the extended warranty again! I picked up my 07 ST back in Oct 2009 and since then I've had used the extended Carmax warranty ($1900, $75 deductible) enough times to pay for itself many times. I've had the exhaust manifold leak in my truck like everyone else, Carmax paid the $3500 bill to fix that one and since one of the bolts had broken off inside the that was an expensive fix, and I also had a free rental car the whole time. Then I just took my truck in for maintenance and the Ford dealership found a crack in my radiator, just like some of y'all on here have found. I also had Ford look at the A/C since I would occasionally here a thump noise whenever I cut on the A/C. After a few days with a free rental again I got my truck back with a new radiator and a/c parts replaced to fix the problem. These issues were $979 paid by Carmax (not including the cost of the radiator since Carmax bought it and sent it to Ford), so not too bad at all!
Just wanted to let y'all know the good service I've seen with Carmax and the extended warranty.

My parents have bought a few cars from Carmax and have been pleased. Not sure if they've had to use or even bought an extended warranty through them though. Good to know.

My 19 daughter works at the Carmax in Edmond, OK and absolutely loves it!!

I have the A/C thump, what was the fix?

Extended warranties are hit or miss. For my 2000 Explorer it was well worth it, for the Saab it was a waste of money.

If needed I can verify when I get home but I believe the Ford receipt stated a new O-ring and accumulator, the costs for just those parts an installation was around $650, so not a cheap fix. I don't know if anything was actually wrong or broken but when I found the Ford TSB online I decided to bring it up and they said the warranty ppl would fix it.

I was never a fan of extended warranties but these days cars are pretty expensive to fix and there is less that I can do myself. I leased my Trac new and bought it when it was off lease and the bank kinda insisted that I get an extended warranty. I got the cheapest one, cost $1900 also with a $100 deductible and it's paid for itself because of the front wheel bearings.

Well my warranty came to the rescue again! Took the truck in to check another manifold leak and wheel bearing sound and sure enough, it paid for a $3,042 repair (I paid $136) for the drivers side exhaust manifold repair and the passenger side front wheel bearing! Another reason why I'm glad I got that warranty and I'll be sad in 4,500 miles because its about to expire!

I was gonna say, you might want to consider trading it in when the warranty expires unless you can buy another warranty. Assuming the warranty companies haven't figured out that insuring Sport Tracs is a bad idea.

I'm prob not getting rid of the ST until the wheels fall off now. Luckly I've only had the same problems as everyone else, and hopefully since they've been taken care of I won't need to do them again.
