Dear all. I live in Ghana and I own 2013 Ford explorer xlt 3.5l 4wd. My cel light was on so I scanned it and the following dtcs showed up P0420 & P0430 with no other codes. I run the mod 6 logs and I got Cat 1&2 oxygen storage capacity out of range. Attached is the copy. Please I'm newbie and wanted to know if the Cat converter needs replacement or the Oxygen sensors??
Please your urgent response would be very much appreciated.

Either the cat converters have been destroyed by something wrong with combustion or the sensors both are acting up at the same time. Seems like a poisoning event, either destroyed the catalysts or the O2 sensors, although the 02 sensors arent throwing their own codes indicating they are bad. I'd bet its the catalysts and you have to buy 2 new manifold/catalyst assemblies which sucks. If so, they aren't impossible to replace and can be done at home with common tools. Buy new studs for the head when you do this job!

What is the mileage of the vehicle? Have you ever done the spark plugs (running rich)? Have you used low quality or leaded fuel in Ghana, I don't know if thats plausible? Additives to the fuel tank or modifications to the engine? Changed the filters and fluids as recommended? If you want to check if its the sensors, just buy the cheapest sensors you can find, replace them and see what happens. You need a 7/8 inch wrench i think.

Thank you very much. In Ghana, we use Ron 95 and Ron 87. I use Ron 95 and do schedule maintenance at every 5,000 km with fully synthetic oil 5w20 and no additives. The car mileage in now 39, 645 km. I removed bank 1 sensor 1 and the tip of the sensor is light brown. Will change all the 4 sensors and revert as soon as possible as a first step before anything else.

Hello, as I said I changed all the sensors and filled the tank up with Ron 95. I drove the car for 30 km on highway and the CEL light has gone. I have been driving the car daily for 5 days now no check engine light. I scanned the vehicle no dtc and checked IM status: catalyst monitor.. Complete. Will keep posted if something untoward happens. Thanks bro.....
