I have a stock 04' XLT 4.6L V8. I'm thinking about a catback system for my X. We tow a travel trailer and am looking for a little more horsepower. I don't want something very noisy. I'm looking for a mild tone on acceleration and that has very little interior noise while driving on the highway. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ronin 8002 has a gibson muffler he's happy with, I have a magnaflow 11226 which is pretty noisy but they have a few different types in their range. A free flowing muffler will give you that little bit of extra grunt so I'd steer clear of baffled muffler's and a 2.5" pipe is about as big as you want to go for your cat back system as any diameter bigger will reduce your low end torque.

i like the flowmaster 40 seriers, itll make your X sound like a that classic mustang rumble for comparison

I was looking at a Borla Pro XS muffler, which had the greatest hp/tq gains, but is the most quiet too. I dont know much about full cat-back exhaust systems.

All of the previous posts are for mufflers. For a catback, you should check out the Magnaflow. Then get a tune to actually optimize the upgrade, and consider an intake as well.

I recommend the 70 series Flowmaster, that's what I have. It's a little louder than stock, but gives you the Flowmaster tone without being overly loud.

My setup: 3rd cat removed, 2.5" single exhaust through a 70 series FM exited at the stock location(tucked up a tad higher;:)

Here's what it sounds like-

Magnaflow 15718

but your gonna spend $$$

I'd suggest take it to a muffler shop and get their opinion.

~$350 for the catback at any time:

I got mine for a lot less by just keeping an eye out for a deal on ebay. By the time you pay a shop to replace all of the stock tubing and get a new muffler, you will be in about that deep and not have stainless steel or a lifetime warranty.

magnaflow all the way! it also comes with everything u need, i did mine in my driveway by myself in 1 hr

limted how much whole setup cost you

l like flowmasters

I like turtles
