I have a kenwood excelon cd player. I was wondering if getting a cd changer was worth it, because not having to look for the cd i want while driving would be nice. I was wondering what people thought about the changers and what ones are the best. thanks

I have the Ford factory changer and I really like it. It's only 6, but that's still over 6 hours of music. It's nice not having to take your eyes off the road to change the CD. Also, I usually have a good mix in the changer, so my passengers stay happy. If you do get a changer with more than 6 CD's, its hard to keep track of what you've got in there, especially if you change the discs a lot. Words of advice: if you have an audio shop install it, make absolutely sure you agree on a mounting location first. Sometimes they'll install it somewhere weird without telling you. I have a few friends who told them to install it in the trunk of their cars, so they installed it on the ceiling of their trunks, blocking the front of the trunk. Stupid!

Well, if you already have a Kenwood head unit, then it sort of makes that decision up for you... You could go with a different brand if you wanted, but then you'd be stuck installing one of those RF type ones where it taps into the antennae, and when you want to hear the CD, you'll have to change the radio station to like 85.5 FM. Sorta cheesey if you already have a nice head unit in there...

Also, you might want to consider using that same money on a CD burner for your computer instead. There are benefits and drawbacks to each. Changer: Holds a number of discs, but you may only listen to a few tracks on a CD. So perhaps amongst those 6, 10, or 12 CD, you only listen to maybe 36 songs in total? Depends on your listening habits. Burner: Can make copies of your CDs just in case they get stolen, don't have to carry around 6, 10 or 12 CDs anymore, have all your favorite songs on 1 or 2 discs (depends on how you listen again), but you have to burn CD
"program" that is static, listening to the same set of songs.

The nice thing, of course, would be to get both, someday... :D

I wouldn't bother... I had the 6 disc factory one.. when I changed over I lost its usage and I don't really miss it, I never knew wihch CD was which and found myself searching for songs more often than just picking 1 and popping it in like I do now. I might get an eclipse changer later, but thats only if I start feelin "frisky"

honestly, i like being able to laod cds right up front. not only is it convinient, its also sounds better.. my main reason for switching to a changer was that i found myself rear ending people in NYC traffic when changing cd's at lights. nothing major, just bumping into them. my best set up was cd face with the changer as well, worth it? sure. to me anyway.

Like most others have said I think its all a matter of personal preference and what you would like. Do you take lots of long trips? You may want to get a changer so you don't have to fumble around looking for a CD. Just load a few in the changer and take off. I listen to all types of music so I plan on buying a changer fairly soon. That way I can load in different types of CD's and decide what I wanna listen to with out looking around for the CD in my visor mounted CD holder. Changers are usually about $200-$250. If you feel a changer would be put to good use than go out a get one.

Hmm i feel a bit ripped off now. I have a kenwood excelon with the folding face plate and it was $450. I think i should have looked into getting a changer instead because their half the price.

I have the factory 6 in mine. The only problem I found is if you get tired of what is in the mag it is harder to change than just 1. Solution buy an extra mag or two and you are good to go. Now the only problem is remembering where the cd is at.

The eXcelon's are awesome head units. Pick up a Kenwood 6 disc changer for $210 or a 10 disc for $230 at http://www.tmselectronics.com

I tried that web address and it said the web site is old or something. I might consider the changer but im gonna get some better speakers than what it has in it already. Thanks for all the advice by the way.

I fixed the link.

http://www.tmselectronics.com/

That site has some of the cheapest prices anywhere on anything you could imagine for your car stereo.
