CEL - 0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

The Haynes manual says that your transmission fluid will appear to be lower after driving 20 miles as opposed to letting it sit.

I don't understand that because if I check it cold, the fluid looks overfilled, even using the normal warm markings. After driving it and checking the fluid, I barely get any reading at all. So I don't know if I need more fluid or less?

Anyone else seen this?

by the way

Replaced my DPFE sensor and no longer have P0401, still have check engine light unfortunatley because of that damn torque clutch converter circuit.

That's why u'r supposed to check tranny fluid when hot and on a flat surface. Fill when hot till it reaches the mark

my point is that your tranny fluid is supposed to look low when it's cold, that's why your transmission fluid dipstick has cold markers below the hot markers. All I'm saying is that my fluid looks high when it is cold, and low when it is hot, it should be the other way around. So I'm not sure if I should add some or not.

Thanks!

I just bought a 1999 Ford Explorer and while driving home tonight the check engine light came on. I got the P0401 code as well. Since I have to get it inspected before I can drive it I have to get it fixed but don't have a lot of cash to replace all sorts of sensors. I am glad I came across this thread because I will replace the DPFE sensor first and hopefully it works. I will let you know...
