I have a 2001 Explorer Sport with about 80K on it now. The CEL went on last week about a day after I added gas to my car. It still runs fine. I went to AutoZone and had the codes pulled- they were P0171 and P0174- banks 1 and 2 too lean. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on things that I could look at before I had to take it to the shop.
Thanks.

I'm going to assume you have the SOHC engine? Those seem to be common codes, do a seach on here, you should find a ton of info on it.

Yeah... upper intake seals or a dirty MAF sensor are good places to start.

Check for vacum leaks

I know it's a different engine... but my friend had a 1998 Ranger with 4.0L OHV and it had the same codes and it ended up being a bad mass air flow sensor. His intake bolts were a little bit loose as well. I bet it's the intake seals and a dirty/bad MAF.

I am sorry that this took so long, but I figured that I would let others know what the solution was- a hose had to be replaced because it had a hole. Pretty easy and cheap- so there is hope!

PCV hose I presume.
