Hey everybody,

I'm looking to swap out the aftermarket center console that the previous owner put into my Explorer. I'm not exactly sure what brand it is bit it fits well, it's just missing a couple pieces and I'd prefer the softer stock armrest.

I found out today that the local scrap yard has about 6 Explorers but none of them are first gens. I was wondering about the compatibility of a console from a 2nd gen into my 91 2 door.

I'm also betting that my aftermarket console isn't mounted using the factory hardware, so I was wondering how the factory center consoles are bolted to the floor?

Any info will help. Cheers!

The factory center console bolts to the floor using six bolts that are part of the floor pan. Once you put the factory console in, all you need is the six washers and nuts (10mm). Its a little more involved than that.

the factory console has two plastic covers, one on each side that you need to pop off with a flathead screwdriver. There is also screws in the cupholder area. That will get you started I dont remember the step by step info. This will get you started.
