center will tell temp and direction but not gas milage per gallon. It just goes blank and goes to celcious. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and is there just a fix for it. I checked all the fuses so far. Any help would be great. Not showing MPG like it use to. It's a 98' 4wd xlt 6 soch.

The overhead console does not display fuel economy. Some explorers came with an additional display that is at the front of your center console underneath your radio and heater controls. This is the display that displays your fuel economy.

thanks but it did work and now it's not so I know it came with it. I'm also not getting a temp guage reading so that might have something to do with it.

No, no overhead console came with that feature. You either misread it or were mistaken.

Here's a picture Mountaineergreen posted in a thread about center console removal of the message center.

If your explorer does not have that, or something aftermarket added on like a scangauge or ultragauge, then you don't have anything in your truck that will display fuel economy.

If your display is not working, this thread details how to repair it

If it is not showing a temperature, then there is a possibility your temp sensor is bad. The sending unit is located behind your grill on the front of your truck.

The overhead console display ONLY functions as a compass and outside temp display.

This post shows the board and display after they have been removed from the console. I won't link the image here, because it is huge and it will make reading your thread a pain in the butt, but I will link the post that has the image.

As you can see, the display can ONLY show temperature and direction. The LCD is not made to show anything else.

If you have something overhead that doesn't look like this, post pictures so we can help you better.
