Chaps,
I need help - I bought my 1996 XLT in the US and brought it here to the UK.

The armrest material is split and I need to replace it. Ford (US) want around $250 for a new one plus shipping costs. I just can't afford it. If any kind soul is able to pick one up in a wreckers yard I'd be happy to pay the costs and postage plus I'll throw in a free copy of my book http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0953696812/thebestofbrit-21/026-5296801-7997229).

I realise it's a long shot but I don't visit the US often enough to find a used one myself.

If there is someone out there who may be able to pick one up - it's tan in colour (I can't remember the American Ford word for tan - but it's basically light brown). The centre console is the one with the CD changer in it and I need the whole top of it - it's the lid.

Please email (mike@effingpot.com) me or contact me via the website below if you are able to help.

Have you considered going to a local automotive upholstery shop and having it reupholtered? I don't thing they would charge you that much. The color shade may be a bit off but then again so may be the one that comes from a salvage yard. Speaking from personal experience I bought my 95X used in 98 when it was 3 years old. The previous owners had a child seat in the front and eventually removed some of the paint from the glove box. I went to Ford and bought a can of interior Ford trim paint and repainted the glove box.
The job came out well but it was bit lighter than the rest of the dash which probably had darkened with time.
Another option you have, on this message board they
have a buy and sell parts for Explorers, perhaps you could post a request for the Tan ( correct name) armrest
and get one from there. How does it feel sitting on the wrong side of the interior cabin, I know I didn't feel very comfortable driving by English rules. But like anything else it's what your used to. Good luck to you.
