I thought about doing this when i had an auto t-case, You could probably install a switch and relay to apply 12v to the TOD clutch power wire, assuming you leave the selector switch in 2wd i don't see why it wouldn't give you 4wd high.

well thanks i guess ill ask some moe people around.. still not sure why ford did that make no sceans why... you would not put really 4x4 on a 4x4 trunk but o well...

Somebody researched this a couple years ago, and I believe they found a way to do it. I remember seeing some wiring diagrams and directions on what to do, might take some searching time, but it's around somewhere...

Yes,,,it was called the brown wire mod if I do remember

thats is for the 97 and up explorers, 95-96 have a diffrent tcase

The brown wire mod works on on 95-01 explorers. All the "brown wire mod" did was cut power to the clutch that engages the front driveshaft, thus giving you 2wd and 2wd low. I'm thinking if you apply 12v to that same line while in 2wd you'll be able to have 4wd high.

Doug,
I thought that there was a reason why simply applying 12v to the t-case wouldn't work. Something about a "phased signal" and that it wasn't as simple as supplying a constant source of power.
D.

Yeah, why on earth Ford didn't put 2WD, Auto 4, 4 HI, and 4 LO in just like they have in the F-Series, Expedition, and Excursion is beyond me. I have all but 2WD, the '95 and '96 guys really got shafted by not having 4 HI.
