Where did you get the $450.00 price range from?
Did that unclude shipping?

it was 454.38 including ground shipping. got it from (dead link) it it too much? good deal? can't find to many people that sell con-ferr racks. thanks.

I've thought about going for this one before, but am not sure how to mount it. What do you think?

I dunno, but it sure does look sturdy. I'm sure you can mount it same way as a confer rack.

get a hummer...

Hey, blue-steel... what are you going to do with a $500 roof rack? Make it a true Exploder!

If I were you, I would hook up with that blackout guy mentioned in this thread and get one of his racks. Maybe you could get him to make some custom skid plate for all our explorer. Not to mention some bumpers or whatever. If I were you, I would follow up on that guy.

Anyone tried the safari one from Explorer Express? Just curious as to how good that one is...

The order site for Con-Ferr is not really Con-Ferr, but some company that sells for Con-Ferr. They charge too much! :( I got mine from a local 4x4 shop. I just asked them if they could beat the Con-Ferr price and they did.
My whole set up the rack, floor, 3sets of light brackets, axe/shovel bracket, Hi-Lift jack bracket, cost me I think around $380.00 plus tax, which is alot cheaper than the $450.00 plus shipping.

IMHO there are only 2 racks that are worth their weight, and they are Garvins Wilderness rack and the Con-Ferr rack. You can beat them up and they will still look good. Oh and they are mounted by 4 mounts on each side. Not just 2.

What do you need?

I got an email this morning that let me know my racks were up on the board so I signed up and decided to see what you guys needed. Let me know and I'll get back with you ASAP.

The one on ebay there it looks like that guy just used metal hose clamps and clamped them to his origional roof rack.

looks pretty weak to me

I was the one that emailed Black Out. He is the guy that is making these racks listed on Ebay.

(dead link)

I am looking at getting one of these...1/2 the price of a Con Ferr, looks stronger too. Maybe...
Since Black Out is a member now, and if it is OK with Rick and the Moderator, we could work out a some kind of deal for members.

Look again, those aren't hose clamps.

go through summit racing, its not in their catalog but they are way cheaper, i got mine with the brackets for mounting, ski rack adapter, light mounts for 325.00 shipped toi my door. nobody else even came close. just call and give them the parts numbers from the con-ferr website.

Here's an email I got from the last rack I shipped out:

"Received the roof rack last night. The quality of the rack is beyond what i
could of imagined. I don't feel I could of purchased a rack commercially
with the same ruggedness as the rack you supplied no matter how much I
spent. It's a shame people on ebay continue to pass up your auction and
instead purchase other **** out there to save 30 bucks. Cannot say how
pleased I am, it will take me a little time to figure out how to mount it to
a pick up truck roof but I have till summer. Thanks again for all your help
and if I ever know of someone who is looking I will be sure to direct them
your ways,"

I offered to build him a set of mounting towers so he could bolt it directly to his roof but he opted to try and fab something up himself.

I'll put my racks up against any other on the market in strength, looks and cost. Check out the newest auction site at Dead Link Removed ,there's a bunch of newer pictures that weren't on the older auction.

Like I told you in the email, I want one of your racks. Give me about 2 weeks and I should be ready.

I know this is alittle off the subject at hand but I was looking at Blackouts e-bay auction and noticed you ship greyhound. Is there a way to figure out where the closest station is to me?

Also if I was to have you build on for me, is there anyway you could build a spare tire holder on it also. Ya know just a round peice of metal that runs through the center of the wheel and a way to lock it down. Just thinkin here!!

Go to (dead link) and use 86001 for the from zip, it will locate the station nearest you. UPS wanted around $160 to ship them and they are too big for Fed Ex as well. The biggest one they will ship is a 72" X 52" so keep that in mind. If you want a rack bigger than that it will have to go by truck.

I noticed your auction on Ebay, and say this one thread here. What do you suggest I do if I don't have a roof rack? How would I mount it then? Just drill some holes in the roof, and put some kind of extra plate steel around were the bolt goes in the help disribute the weight?

Eric

Go down the auction page a bit and you'll see a rack with a tape measure on the light bar. Take a look at the mounting feet it's resting on, I think that's the answer to your question. There's another rack sitting on the welding table that has the feet as well. Let me know what you need and I'll be glad to build it for you.

I just ordered this rack from blackout !

and I can't wait to get it !
this thing looks sturdy,and only about 35lbs {ultimate strength to weight ratio}
I wound up getting a 40" wide X 60" long X 4" high rack.
I also ordered the mounting feet,I took some measurements,it's exactly 40" from center of track to center of track, the feet will be exactly 40" appart at center.
this will bring the rack cloer to the roof and not looking too goofy on top of my bars.
