Could it be just my gas cap ? How tight should they be ?

The "gross leak" is more often than not a gas cap left off. Tighten it until it clicks.

IF it continues, check the gas cap seal. If that appears ok it could be the filler hose and look for other possible leaks in hoses in the fuel vapor system. Absent that it may be the Cannister Vent Solenoid, or the Vapor Management Valve. In any event, this code gets set when, during a test cycle, the system cannot reach 7" of vacuum. HTH.

Glacier- Thanks for all the info. If it is not my gas cap can you tell me where the Vapor Management Valve and the Cannister Vent Solenoid are located ? Can the replacement be done by a DIY ? My Haynes book does not show it . 1999 Sport. Once again thank you.

My factory manual for the 99 says the Cannister and the cannister vent solenois are located on the passenger side behind the back axle. The vapor vent valve appears to be on the passenger side about the right front door. HTH...
