Hi,

I have a 96 explorer with a 6 cylinder engine, about 2 months ago the exhaust started sounding louder and it seemed to be running a little rough. The problem seems to be getting worse now I am getting hesitation especially at light acceleration and the check engine light comes on. I brought it to a Ford dealer to get it checked out and the error code they found was a misfire code. They reset it and said they could find nothing wrong with it. I'm convinced there's a problem with it but they can't find anything and the check engine light keeps coming on. It has 52,000 miles on it and my guess would be something to do with the timing belt. Could you please give me any suggestions on what to do next?

Thanks, Mark

I would try pulling the plugs and make sure they are all in working order. Make sure they are gaped to the right gap. Also make sure they are not fouled up. May want clean them or replace them and at the same time I would check the plug wires. That is the first thing I would check anyway. Hope that helps.
