Check engine light goes on at 90-95 mph

does anybody know if this is a common problem to 95 explorers?
When I am driving 90-95 mph for 30-45 minutes the check engine light pops on, the strange thing is that when the car has been parked for a while, I restart it, drive the same speed back and nothing happens??
is is a 95 XLT 4WD, with a 4.0 6 cyl, auto with overdrive, and all fluids are checked. and 50K miles on the car
could it be the airmeter, that needs to be cleaned?
I hope someone can help.

Explorers arent made to go that fast for that period of time!

Are you sure that its not the CHECK SPEEDOMETER light thats coming on?

Yeah mine CEL does the on/off thing on the highway but i've never driven that fast so I suppose the two may be related. I will let you know when I find out. Also, also expect some accelerated component wear when driving at that speed. Explorers were not designed for driving at that speed.

there isn't any reason for that. i've driven a couple hundred miles averaging over 90 a few times and have had no lights come on. so it's not something that should happen. i would suggest cleaning the the stuff you can reach on the intake side. it could also be that at that speed for that long your engine is working hard enough that you o2 sensors get tripped from emissions. i had that happen once while towing at altitude. i just ran it at such high rpms for so long that the cats couldn't quite keep up to the stock specs and it tripped the o2s it also reset after i let it sit just like yours. and why aren't explorers meant to go that fast. they are meant to go that fast just as much as they are meant to go off road. ford didn't design the second generation x for anything other than grocery getting, so offroading was probably further off of their minds than going 90
