I am wondering what could be the problem with my '91 E.B. explorer... I used to have a problem with it reving extremely high in park but that is fixed... i still have a ridiculous amount of mpg...on average my truck should run about 270 miles per full tank...i am now running out of gas at 150-170... it's terrible! i also have no torque, or kick when i push the accelerator. what can i do? oh yeah, i just bought a chilton's repair manual... does anyone recommend learning everything on my own? I don't know anyone who can help me with my explorer, and i have barely any knowledge.

Sounds maybe like a failed FPR. Does it smell like it's running rich? You should test the fuel pressure and compare it to the Ford specs.

Your Chilton book should also give you a procedure to retrieve the codes from your truck since your CEL is on. Or Wal-Mart sells a code reader for about $35 that will do the same thing. Finding out your code will help you greatly in fixing this problem.

How much do you think it would cost to fix my problem if i just took it to a ford dealership?
