I just picked up a 98 explorer for 200 bucks! 4.0 ohv, 5 speed manual, selectable 4 wheel. 118k on the clock and 7 grand worth of repairs in the last 50k. the old lady left a bad smell and trash everywhere. :thumbdwn: I just about pissed my pants when i took off to drive it home, i found out (thanks to this site that, 4 wheel was trying to engage and, i had two different sized tires front and rear. :fire: I did the brown wire mod the next day and then swiss cheese air box, I'm now looking into tt and shackles then aals. i do have one major question though, are 2nd gen explorers any good in the mud with a good set of tires? i'm competing with an 86 cucv m1009 witha 6 inch lift and 38.5 tires that look to belong on a john deere.

Welcome to the Site , Great Price ! , Never Heard of Sidney Ill I have Family Near Chicago and Rockford , Good Luck competing with that Rig Sounds Allot Tougher than The Almost Stock Ex

It was a great price, yeah, the trips to the badlands will be awesome, my tires will last, i'll get good fuel mileage and, i have a/c! he has soft tires, terrible mileage with his diesel, and it's a hot truck no matter what you do.

Thank you! I took it out in the mud and spent an hour and half pulling it out, clay gets pretty sticky especially when your torsion bar crossmember and pumpkin are just sitting on it. It took a 4wd 5.3 Tahoe with limited slip on high gravel.

Doesn't look to bad. I need to find some 31's and to make them fit, do a tt and shackles or aal. I can't believe how much people want for tires these days, I've picked up multiple sets with great tread for next to nothing and now, people want 300 for bald 31's with gouges in the sidewall!?

Bald 31 with rip in sides. Tell them to go somewhere.

I fit 31's with minimal TT, just enough to clear for almost full turn. I half to almost mac them out for them to clear at full turn. That's a 265/75/16 which is pretty much a 31 1/2 inch tire, BF Goodrich AT's. Unless they are coming with rims and tires, i would tell that guy off. I'm always a dick to people who sell stuff overpriced on craigslist.

Oh really!? I just picked up shackles and i'm doing TT up front. The weird thing is I can clear 33/12.50/15's right now with the 2 inches shackles and TT. Might rub at full lock. Now I need a brushguard, safari rack, taillight guards and my ZORV decals. If you guys don't know, look up "zombie outbreak response vehicle" on google. The bright orange blazer is my bestfriend's. That is my offloading completion. Sorry about the random jumbling of sentences.

Keep er' between the ditches y'all.

Looks More like Your From GA then Il With Y'all haha , Well Glad To See Your Getting It Modded , Careful With the TT , I've Heard Of Other Stuff Breaking Not Long After a TT Lift Up Front !

The "southern twang" is bound to happen when your family is from southern Indiana and you grew up in a 1100 person town.

This was supposed to be a daily driver but, I can't leave anything alone, my 85 iroc started off a little rough running so, we replaced the topend, every brake component minus the pedal, led everything, hids, paint, cleaned up the motor and then....wrecked it lol. Shes running like a top now though. Now, I need a vehicle I can take anywhere. It sucks that the 4.0 ohv is weak but, oh well, she rolls well. Now I just need a few body related items, ZORV decals, lift and tires. Haha i'm so punny ^

Ugh! I'm trying to remove the factory shackles and, the leaf side refuses to come easily. I'm going to get it out one way or another so, 2 inch lift is about 20% done!

My Shackles Wasn't too Bad To Remove , But We don't Have As Much Snow So Less Rot Down Here , Pb Blaster and BFH - Big Friggin Hammer Should Persuade Them To Come apart , Good Luck And Looking Forward To Pics !!

I got the shackles off, had to torch the bushings out an replaced with new. I took a rear wheel off and stuck the 33 in there and I don't understand why you guys had to trim I had plenty of suspension travel room. I'll still take precaution and I gotta check the front. I'm stoked, I hated the look of the truck sitting so low but, now even with a very small lift, I love it. Again, i'm sorry for my horrible grammar and sentence structure, its late and i'm on a phone, I also might be a bit drunk. :D

Good , At Least You Know You Have New Bushings In it !! I didn't Have To Trim With My body lift an suspension lift , But I'm planing on Going All Suspension and NO body lift in the future , I will be keeping the body lift in case I find another cheap First gen in my area to Modify ! keep up the work and Take Pics !!

I have a few pics, I get to focused on getting the job done. I have to replace my passenger side o2 sensor and probably do hubs in the next two weeks and try to get the 33's but, maintenance stuff is more important right now, what do you think I should do for performance mods on the 4.0 ohv?

Hey guys! I've been having a bit of trouble with my sploder, she is surging horribly in gear (manual) and has an erratic idle, I had my codes ran a while back. The code reader said "slow response from oxygen sensor circuit" or something along those lines. I bought the o2 sensor and, sold it to a friend for his x, I sold it because, the truck ran awesome though so, I figured she was just abut dirty, I forgot all about it until, the truck chugs almost like it has half the teeth missing on ring gear in the back but, I doesn't wind up like the clutch is slipping, its clearly a motor issue. If you guys can offer any advice, I'd appreciate it.

my graduating class had 104, there were 4 from my home town, the rest were from surrounding towns. i believe i figured out the surge, it's missing on two cylinders because, my 02 sensor failed and made the passenger bank run hog rich until the plugs fouled themselves. I got a nifty little pushbar for thesploder a few days ago. and tubular sport side steps. i might put em on or, sell em, i haven't decided yet. pics are coming when i get off work.
