hi all, was wondering if you could give me some input. i have a noise in my dash when i initally accelerate or when im coming to a stop. it almost sounds like a pencil rolling around inside the dash. if im in a parking lot going slow and i hit the gas multiple times really fast it does it a bunch of times. im thinking it might be a blend door flapping around. anyone run across this. the noise sounds like its coming from the top middle of the dash behind the radio. i just changed my blend door actuator that is by the drivers side kick panel so that one is good to go. thanks in advance,

I have the same problem.

Hello Doy Caralos,

Have you taken your Explorer to a Ford Dealer to get diagnosed? If you’re located in the Middle East, I recommend contacting a dealer in your area. Our certified technicians will be happy to assist! :)

super annoying isnt it
Hey redsoxsrt,

If your vehicle is experiencing the same symptom, please set an appointment here. Let the service manager at the Ford Dealer take a look at your Explorer. They are in the best position to advise the next steps to reach a resolution.

The problem with taking it somewhere is that it costs them more to even look at it then for you to buy the part and put it on... If it was me I'd keep looking around on here

I just had that problem, and my engine burned up. Now I have to get a new engine. If I were you, I would check the plastic intake manifold near the thermostat, thermostat, and exhaust manifold.

I'm having same problem driving me crazy however i think i might have figured mine out mine only happens while hvac is on see if you here yours while its off with the dial on 0 if manual hvac I traced mine to the defrost door vacuum actuator its internal spring is broken so when the switch is in off position it applies vacuum when not off it pushes out by the spring and it doesn't fully push out which gives it room to move so when you accell hit bump etc your here a nice like a pencil or ball bearing lol.

I ordered mine and will be replacing it. how ever i know its related to a vacuum switch cause I only hear it with hvac switched on.

Posting an update since this was an anoying repair I bought the vaccum actuator wrong one figured if I send it back it will cost me 7 to do that when it was only 40 so ordered diffeent one and wrong again lost my mind said at this point everything is out and it's making noise with engine at idle but ac on I figured vibration and started holding things and realizes it's coming from far right of vehicle I hold the hood and guess what it gets stronger so I open the hood and notice that the ac line is flexing pretty good and hard and realized that check valve was on top of it I moved it and noticed there was marking through the paint this was going on for awhile I bet.

What solved my issue was something free moved the check vaccum lines to not rest on top of the ac line.

Here are some pics of it to get a visual hope this helps others!
