Hey guys,
I've fixed most of the issues on my recently aquired '98 5.0 AWD explorer except this one.
Its got 216,x.. miles and there is a noticeable clicking noise upon acceleration and it gets worse as load go up(at 3k its so obvious) and sounds worse if you drive after letting it sit for a bit or after a cold crank in the morning.
The passenger exhaust manifold and EGR tube were replaced exactly 3 years ago (jul 2012) and to be honest it sounds louder/worse on the drivers side.
Im convinced its a crack in the drivers exhaust manifold but my very trustworthy and reputable repair shop says they can't reproduce it. Of course they are all 40+ years old and my 22 year old ears might hear it better, it's not loud but is noticeable. They randomly mention something about a hydraulic lifter but I know that I know its gotta be the exhaust header.
Should I just buy the part and bring it in(they pay full price for everything...)? I just need the exhaust manifold and the gasket right? How many hours of labor am I looking at? They charge $65 an hour so at least its cheap.
If I could just this crazy clicking noise fixed I would feel much better about buying the truck. I also wish it would pull as hard as it does in Reverse! haha my 3.73's need to be 4.10s!
