my ex has been losing noticable power and gas mileage. about a week about i got a code p0420 and reset it..well i came back again and im almost positive that my cat is clogged. i do not have the money to replace it, is there any quick temporary fixes to this?? are they bolt on or weld on?? im thinking about trying to pull it off and knock all the guts out for the 3 weeks i need till i get paid. its getting bad enough that i cant get up hills anymore. any advice would be greatly appreciated..

don't know if it bolted on or welded... but I would just cut it out and replace it with a straight pipe and see if that helps. Destroying your cat without knowing for sure that its the problem will cost you a lot of money to replace if it wasn't the problem.

How do you know its clogged? Have you had it flow tested?

well with my experiences with the many cars ive had everything points to the cat. u actually can hear rattling from the inside, and its not the heat shield. there is no power at all, and the exhaust sounds very muffled kinda like someone shoved a tennis ball in the pipe. so it would seem as if that is the problem. im taking it to my friends exhaust shop tommorow and they r gonna test everything out and if its bad just weld a straight pipe for a few weeks..
