Hi, I bought a 99 Explorer almost two months ago now, three weeks into driving it I pulled into traffic and had to press on the gas harder then I normally do on an incline and I noticed some serious clunking, I took the truck to the dealer and they claimed it was the transmission. I had to pay half of the costs for this to be replaced.

I got it back and on the second day of driving it in a similar driving situation it done it again, I was able to simulate the clunk for their mechanic four times. They kept the truck and have since said they cannot simulate the situation and are coming to the conclusion that since I am of heavier stature, (I'm 6ft, and a big woman) that the torsion bar bushings are the problem and that I need to put heavy duty ones in there, i.e. not their problem.

Is this logical? Has anyone else heard of such a thing? I've searched on the net and I cannot find heavy dut bushings, all I can reference on offroading sites is a heavy duty torsion bar. I have driven Ford vehicles most of my life and this has never been a problem, and others I have locally spoken with think this is upsurd, but the mechanic says this is a known Explorer problem.

Any help or advice will be helpful, as I know they are going to give my truck back today with the darn thing still making this clunking noise.

***Update***The mechanic took it out today and got it stuck in four wheel drive, and says that the front differental is bad..who would have quessed LOL I searched all the posts on the board before posting and I read about slip yokes and transfer cases so I was thinking something along that line.
