I have a 2001 Expl Sport 4x4 and lately while driving at a constant speed (has happened at 40-45 mph and 60 mph) on slippery roads (icy, salted snow, or snow) in either 4x4 high or 2WD with no turning occuring, all of a sudden the entire driveline makes one loud thunk/clunk which I can feel in the accelerator and can be heard throughout.
I have limited slip and am wondering if it is related to that or something else? I'm the only owner and haven't gone off-roading with it and use 4x4 high off and on during the winter months. I've never replaced the differential fluid or the tranny fluid and the truck has nearly 100,000 miles.
Any thoughts on what I can check?
Thank you so much!
